Warre's Heritage Ruby Port
An honest, reliable ruby from the oldest British port house — clean fruit, gentle sweetness, and unbeatable value.
Our Review
Warre's Heritage Ruby Port is a solid entry-level ruby from the oldest British port house. While it does not aspire to the complexity of reserve rubies or LBVs, it delivers clean, honest fruit character at a price point that makes it ideal for everyday enjoyment and as an introduction to the world of port wine.
The nose is fresh and inviting, with red cherry, raspberry, and plum at the forefront, joined by light chocolate and a subtle floral note. It is simpler than the reserve rubies from Graham's or Taylor's, but there is a brightness and purity to the fruit that is appealing. On the palate, the wine is balanced and approachable, with red fruit, cherry cordial, and milk chocolate forming an easy-drinking core. The tannins are soft and unobtrusive.
The finish is medium-length, clean, and fruity, with a pleasant cherry sweetness that does not overstay its welcome. There is no bitterness or harshness — just straightforward, enjoyable port.
Warre's Heritage Ruby is the kind of wine that justifies keeping a bottle always on hand. It is unpretentious, reliable, and genuinely pleasant. It works well slightly chilled on a warm evening, poured over vanilla ice cream, or sipped alongside simple chocolate desserts. For the price, it is difficult to find fault.
