Our Review

Graham's 10 Year Old Tawny is a textbook introduction to the world of aged tawny port. It manages to deliver genuine complexity at a price point that makes it accessible to newcomers and satisfying for seasoned enthusiasts alike. The blend draws from wines aged in seasoned oak casks at Graham's Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia, where the cool, humid conditions of the riverside cellars allow for a graceful, unhurried maturation.

On the nose, this is immediately inviting. Toasted almonds and dried apricot dominate, but there is a subtle undercurrent of vanilla and butterscotch that gives it a certain warmth before the wine even touches your lips. The palate follows through beautifully, offering smooth caramel, a distinct hazelnut praline character, and a citrus brightness from orange zest that prevents the sweetness from becoming cloying.

What distinguishes Graham's from many of its competitors at the 10-year level is the balance. The sweetness is restrained, the acidity is well-judged, and the finish is clean and warm without any harshness. It is a port that rewards both casual sipping and deliberate contemplation.

For the price, this remains one of the best entry points into aged tawny port. It outperforms many wines that cost considerably more, and it pairs remarkably well with a range of desserts and cheeses. A reliable bottle to keep on hand.
