Niepoort Dry White Port
Niepoort's mineral-driven artistry applied to white port, creating the most terroir-expressive aperitif in the category.
Our Review
Niepoort's Dry White Port carries the house's distinctive mineral character into the white port category, producing a wine that is more complex and terroir-expressive than most of its competitors. Under Dirk Niepoort's direction, even this aperitif-style wine receives the kind of attention usually reserved for premium bottlings.
The nose is delicate and layered, with white flowers and citrus blossom joined by green almond, subtle honey, and a hint of saline minerality that is uniquely Niepoort. On the palate, the wine is vibrant and mineral-driven, with lemon and white peach providing fruit, crushed almond adding texture, herbal notes contributing complexity, and bright acidity maintaining freshness throughout.
The finish is clean and persistent, with a distinctive saline mineral edge and citrus freshness that set this apart from the category norm. It is a finish that recalls the sea, making it a natural partner for shellfish.
Niepoort's Dry White Port is the most interesting wine in its category. While Churchill's may be the benchmark and Taylor's the most widely available, Niepoort offers something different: a white port with genuine terroir character and mineral complexity. For seafood pairings and aperitif service, it is exceptional.
