Our Review

Ramos Pinto White Port is a pleasant, off-dry white port that bridges the gap between the bone-dry style of Churchill's and the overtly sweet traditional white ports. Its moderate sweetness makes it versatile and approachable, though less crisp than the drier alternatives.

The nose is soft and appealing, with white peach and orange blossom joined by light honey, dried apricot, and a faint nutty note. It is gentle rather than assertive, setting expectations for what follows. On the palate, the wine is off-dry and smooth, with stone fruit and honeyed almond providing the flavor core, citrus adding brightness, and balanced acidity preventing the sweetness from becoming cloying.

The finish is medium with a pleasant honeyed warmth and a clean citrus aftertaste. It is easy-drinking and undemanding.

Ramos Pinto White Port is the choice for those who find the bone-dry white ports too austere. Its slight sweetness makes it more approachable, and it works well in a Port and Tonic where the tonic provides additional dryness. It is also a pleasant sipper on its own, served ice-cold on a warm afternoon.
