Dow's Late Bottled Vintage Port
The driest, most food-friendly LBV available, purpose-built for the dinner table.
Our Review
Dow's Late Bottled Vintage Port carries the house's characteristically dry, peppery style into the LBV category with uncompromising fidelity. This is a port that will not try to seduce you with sweetness. Instead, it offers structure, restraint, and a food-friendliness that sets it apart from more fruit-forward competitors.
The nose presents dark cherry and black plum with subtle pepper, dried herbs, and a touch of dark chocolate. It is more savory and restrained than most LBVs, telegraphing the dry style that follows. On the palate, the wine is firm and structured, with blackberry and plum skin providing the fruit foundation, dark spice adding complexity, and assertive tannins carrying a dry minerality that is unmistakably Dow's.
The finish features the house's trademark peppery dryness with a clean, crisp closure that practically begs for food. This is not a port to sip on its own; it comes alive at the dinner table.
Dow's LBV is the most food-friendly wine in the LBV category. While it may lack the immediate appeal of Graham's richness or Fonseca's exoticism, its dry structure makes it a more versatile partner for savory dishes. At its price point, it is a genuine bargain for those who appreciate the drier side of port.
