Fonseca Bin No. 27 Reserve Port
The crowd-pleaser of the reserve ruby world — lush, fruity, and effortlessly enjoyable with a distinct Fonseca personality.
Our Review
Fonseca Bin No. 27 is one of the benchmarks of the reserve ruby category, and for good reason. Named after the bin where the original blend was stored in Fonseca's cellars, this wine has become one of the most recognized and consistently excellent reserve rubies available. It embodies the Fonseca house style — lush, generous, and unapologetically fruit-forward.
The nose is immediately appealing, with ripe plum and blackberry jam leading the way, accompanied by wild flowers, mocha, and warm spice. There is a certain exotic quality to Fonseca wines that distinguishes them from the more restrained Taylor's or the chocolatey Graham's, and Bin 27 captures this character well. On the palate, the wine is lush and generous, offering dark berry fruit, chocolate-covered cherry, fig, and cinnamon with supple, well-integrated tannins.
The finish is medium-long, warm and fruity, trailing off with chocolate and lingering berry sweetness. It is not a wine of great complexity, but it delivers consistent, crowd-pleasing pleasure every time.
Bin 27 is the reserve ruby to reach for when hosting. Its accessible, fruit-driven character appeals to both port newcomers and experienced drinkers. It pairs beautifully with chocolate desserts and strong cheeses, and its generous personality makes it an excellent after-dinner wine for sharing.
